Katarina started skating at age five. old. Her success allowed her to show her skills and get into a Karl-Marx-Stadt special school specifically designed for gifted kids. At this school she met the trainer Jutta Muler. Witt placed second in the World Championships of Copenhagen in 1982. Her debut was a huge success. Since that time her elegance and grace attracted the attention of everyone. Then she began dominating the sport. Olympic Erfolg at the Sarajevo Winter Games in 1984, Katarina won the gold medal for women's figure-skating following a heatedly-contested competition. She won a much closer race the following year. The free-skating competition, but won the gold medal on her performance during the compulsory figure and the short programme. Witt was the first time a repeat medalist in figure skating for women since Sonja Henie. Hall of Fame Witt competed at Lillehammer Winter Games in 1994 following a career that was successful as an actor. The crowd was captivated by her performance despite the fact that she only placed seventh. Witt's entry into the World Figure Skating Hall of Fame was held in 1995.
